The Following is John's Obituary published in the Pueblo Chieftain, September 11, 2002

John E. Sharp, age 59, left this world on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, peacefully in the arms of his loving wife of 42 years, “Enie.” John leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Becky (Steve) Elizondo and Johna (Mark) Bassi; his mother, Mary Sharp; and sister, Connie Sharp, both of Seattle. Predeceased by his father, John Sharp in 1992. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Markie Lynn, Jeremiah and Mario Bassi and Stephanie Rae Elizondo. John also adored his special extended family, Sheri (Randy) Wills and their daughters, Brianne and Miranda, Ed Reinert and sons, Hunter and Joshua Dominguez. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, knife maker and gun enthusiast. He was a member of the Mesa Shooters Gun Club. John and Enie loved to spend time in the great outdoors. He was an honorable, loyal and true friend and was always there for those who needed him. Enjoyed by all who knew him, John was always ready with a joke and a contagious smile. He will be missed by many close friends. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13, George McCarthy Historic Chapel. In lieu of food and flowers, contributions can be made in John’s memory to his grandchildren’s college fund, the John E. Sharp Memorial Fund, established at Pueblo Bank & Trust.

I only had a few close friends in high school and John was one of them. The last time I saw him was in the late 1970's when he and Ron Sautter came to Alaska and fished with me.  Louis Gwartney
